February 28, 2020- Kindergarten Teacher’s Notes
The children are really enjoying learning about Jesus’ miracles. We added Jesus Stills the Storm, Jesus Heals a Deaf Man, and The Raising of Lazarus this week. We also learned about Lent, starting with Ash Wednesday. We each got ashes on our forehead during chapel to remind us of our sinful nature. Lent include the days leading up to Easter in the church calendar. The color is purple and the songs are not lively during this time–we will add the Halleluiahs back on Easter Sunday. We have made some cross projects for our room.
This is our new opening prayer which ties in very well with our chapel themes of the last three months—service, helpfulness, and kindness—Make me a servant, humble and meek. Lord, let me lift up those who are weak. And may the prayer of my heart always be: make me a servant, make me a servant, make me a servant today. Have your child sing it and teach it to you. Use this as a model at home, too.
We continued to work on shapes in math. We have “shape experts” in Kindergarten!
We added our very last letter during reading time—Qq. The letter Q needs the letter U to follow it in words to make the /kw/ sound. Our new words are squint, squid, quilt, and quit. (Please note that 4, 5 and 6 letter words may be harder for your child so probably need more practice.)
**Amazing Discovery** Why do we brush our teeth? Ask your child!
Our Top Dog this week was Zayla. Zayla’s favorite animal is a gold fish. Her favorite color is pink and she likes to play Barbies with her friends.
