March 6, 2020- Kindergarten Teacher’s Notes
We have completed our unit on Jesus’ miracles. The children really liked learning all the different miracles and illustrating them. I hope you took time to go through their book with them. Such art details! We also had the story of Zaccheus and The Good Samaritan, also found in the New Testament.
Our new snack prayer: Thank you, God, for giving us food. (Repeat) For the food that we eat, for the friends that we meet, thank you, God, for giving us food. (Sung)
Our new ending prayer: Keep yourselves in the love of God. Amen. (Sung as a chant.)
In art, we worked on painting little pictures using only our fingers! We also worked on mixing colors to get different colors and shades to be “just right”.
We have worked on long vowel sounds. We put a macron on top of the vowel when we write those words. Our new Word Wall Word is my. We have also worked on the long vowel sound at the end of a simple word. Practice reading these word families at home—me, we, she, he, be…….so, ho, Mo, no, go, Bo…..hi…..Stu. If you can read/spell one of these words, you can probably read/spell them all! We also worked on the final spelling rule for ck, following a short vowel as in quack, duck, etc. The ck sound is called a digraph. Remember that you will need to make the white word cards for your child. I will still send the colored cards home. Another option, if your child is ready/able, is to practice reading the lists. Save them to review often.
We have new centers—astronauts, a farm, a birthday/bakery shop, and cowboy/girl art.
This week our Top Dog is Gus. Gus’ favorite sport is bowling and his favorite book is Pete the Cat. He also likes to build things in his free time.
