November 22, 2019 – Kindergarten Teacher’s Notes
This week focused on stories of giving thanks. We had the story of the Ten Lepers from the Bible and learned to pray “the handprint prayer”. On Friday, we started talking about Advent! It is the time we prepare our hearts for Christmas. Advent starts December 1st.
We finished the letter Rr in reading and began the letter Kk. Our new Word Wall word is from. Our new reading words are print, strap, and trip. During our Thanksgiving break would be a great time to review all the reading books we have had. Be sure to practice our reading words each day, too. I have noticed we have some great beginning spellers! They love to hear me give the sounds and they spell the words by themselves. Try that at home, too. Give them words to write from our word ring or other simple words they can spell out. I am also seeing some “inventive spellers”—when they write the words as they hear them. Have them read those words to you—they are so close. And praise them for all of their writing! (Perfect spelling will come later.)
In math, we are working on joining groups—adding. We will continue this in December.
We have two new 100 Club members!!! Gunnar successfully counted 100 crayons. Soliana successfully counted 100 plastic grapes. Great jobs!
The children were very excited about our magnet lesson in science. To continue that excitement, I made some little books so we could continue working with magnets together. I also set up a magnet center for free exploring. Fun learning!
**Amazing Discovery** Is air a substance? Does it “take up” room? Ask your child!
We had some great learning times with both our friends in Mrs. Rote’s class and our friends in Ms. Miller’s class.
I wish each of you a great Thanksgiving break—don’t forget to go to church to thank God for all our blessings.
