November 30, 2018 – Kindergarten Teacher’s Notes
And just like that—we’re headed to Christmas! We learned about Advent, preparing our hearts for Christmas and Jesus’ second coming. We need to watch and be ready for Jesus’ second coming. We learned the song Jesus is Coming Back Some Day. We made Advent wreaths and look forward to seeing the big wreath in church.
December prayers: Jesus time: O God, your love goes round and round the people of the earth. And now I pray, oh give to me, the joy of Jesus’ birth. Amen. (With motions)
Snack prayer: Thank you, God. Thank you, God, for our food and friends. We thank you for all you do, your loving never ends. (Tune: Jingle Bells)
Closing prayer: Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask thee to stay close by me forever and love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children in thy tender care and take us to heaven to live with thee there. (Tune: Away in the Manger)
Our new letter was Zz. It was fun to color pictures of words that begin with the /z/ sound and then put them all in a Ziploc bag! We added more “sounding out words”. On Friday we started the letter Cc—perfect for Christmas coming up! We will continue our study of that letter next week.
In math we are beginning to count by 10s. We learned how math is lots and lots of patterns and counting by 10s is one of those patterns. This is also when we learn about dimes– 10 cents. Practice counting by 10s at home by using dimes.
Congratulations to David who counted 100 items and joined the 100 Club!!!
In Social Studies we reviewed our past lessons. Science focused on sounds this week.
I have brought my collection of Christmas children’s books to school to share with the children. Each child may choose one book to take home for a parent to read to them that night. Kindly return the book the next day and then they can choose another book. Enjoy reading some Christmas books with your child this month!
Watch for Christmas art in the hallway next week!
