November 8, 2019 – Kindergarten Teacher’s Notes
We have just finished our fifth chapter in math. The children have worked very hard on numbers up to 20 (counting objects and writing the correct number) and identifying numbers that are more or less (greater or fewer). Please continue to work on this at home if your child has not mastered these skills.
It’s time for the 100 Club in Kindergarten!! Each child will make a collection of 100 pieces, bring them to school, and count them for their friends. We can’t wait to see who will count first!
**Amazing Discovery** Does air weigh anything?? We did an experiment to find out!
In reading, we finished the letter Ss with Silly Sock Day and Skittles math. We have moved on to the letter Ff. Our new Word Ring Words are has, stomp, mist, glass.
We had a special art day on Wednesday! We were happy to have a student from Dallas Lutheran School join us for the morning to work on several turkey projects. Students from DLS volunteer a couple times a year at many places and we were thrilled to have some of the students join us. Along with the students, Ms. Braun, the DLS art teacher, came and taught a special art class to the children in Kindergarten through second grades. It was fun to have a guest teacher.
We are starting to think about Thanksgiving. We will be reading many books about the holiday in the days ahead. We sure had fun making several different kinds of turkeys. They are hanging up around our room.
We have many new centers for November! The children will be taking turns playing with the Mayflower ship, the subway shop, creating November art, and making foam turkeys, pinecone turkeys, turkey masks, and turkey place cards. It’s all about turkeys!
During Jesus time we learned about David as a young boy and that he was chosen to be a future king. A favorite story is David and Goliath. Happy Baptism Birthday to Soliana! Soliana was baptized as a baby on November 9th. We are so glad she is a child of God!
November prayers: Our hands we fold, our heads we bow. For food and drink we thank you now. Amen. (snack prayer) Jesus, Savior, wash away all that has been wrong today. Help me every day to be, good and gentle, more like thee. Amen. (end of day prayer)
