Pre-Kindergarten 4 at Our Redeemer is designed for children between 4 and 5 who do not meet the age requirement to start Kindergarten. This program helps build a solid foundation for education that increases basic skill mastery and fosters a love of learning. Our teachers are dedicated to meeting the needs of each child to offer an individualized learning experience in a classroom setting.
Pre-K 4 Goals
Academic Goals:
Our Redeemer is known for strong academics, and our pre-kindergarten 4 program is no exception. We teach age-appropriate critical thinking skills that are a foundation for elementary learning. Our Pre-K 4 program builds early literacy and mathematics skills that give your child the tools to be successful in Kindergarten.
Social-Emotional Goals:
We intentionally help students to grow socially and emotionally. With the Bible as our guide, most of our learning is reinforced through play and social time together as a class.
Spiritual Goals:
Students learn basic knowledge of Bible stories with the ability to retell a story. Our teachings cover the concepts of sin, forgiveness, grace, and Jesus’ sacrifice. Students grow in worship and prayer as they are taught how to love by serving others.
Pre-K 4 Curriculum, Programs and Unique Learning
Jesus Time
Children focus on learning stories from the Bible using our One in Christ curriculum and the Word of God. Our program encourages the learning of Law and Gospel, and most importantly, the love and grace we are given from our Savior.
Phonics and Reading
We want to instill in your child a love for reading! Along with being read to, this journey begins by learning and reviewing the alphabet and letter sounds through our Explode the Code curriculum, while our dedicated teachers meet each student where they are at to guide them in their learning.
Handwriting
Handwriting is practiced throughout the day in all activities. At Our Redeemer, we provide hands-on activities and manipulatives to help children learn letter and number formation through Handwriting without Tears and set the foundation for paper nd pencil work with Explode the Code to prepare them for Kindergarten.
Math
Math is part of our daily lives, even at the early age of 4. Using our Frogstreet curriculum and number stories, we teach conceptual math understanding. Your child will practice counting, patterning, comparison skills, and beginners’ addition/subtraction concepts through hands-on manipulatives and mathematical stories. These practices bring the learning of early mathematics skills to life in a tangible way.
Science
Throughout the year, our program encourages children to explore the world around them. We learn about senses, living and non-living, nocturnal animals, seasons and weather changes, nutrition and healthy bodies, dental health, plants, and insects through many hands-on activities and experiments.
Social Studies
Within our program, your child will learn all about the parts of the community that God has given to them in their world. We learn all about our families, school, and community throughout the school year. We encourage parent participation for certain activities, because we consider you all part of the Our Redeemer family!
