At Our Redeemer Lutheran School, we believe that a strong foundation in early childhood education sets the stage for lifelong learning. To ensure that every child receives the support they need to grow and thrive, we have implemented the DIAL® (Developmental Indicators for the Assessment of Learning) program for our preschool students.
The DIAL program is a nationally recognized tool that helps educators assess developmental progress in key areas such as motor skills, concepts, and language. By using this structured approach, our teachers can gain valuable insight into how each child is developing and identify opportunities to nurture their growth.
For our Pre-K 3 students, the DIAL assessment is given at the end of the school year. This provides a clear picture of each child’s readiness to transition into Pre-K 4 and highlights areas where additional support may be beneficial. Our Pre-K 4 students are assessed twice—once in the fall to establish a baseline and again in the spring to measure progress and celebrate growth.
Rachel Schultz, our Director of Early Childhood, personally administers all of the assessments. She shared, “The DIAL program has given us greater insight into the developmental needs of our students so we are better able to meet them where they are, prepare them for the next stages, and help them excel in their areas of strength.”
This thoughtful approach to assessment allows us to tailor instruction, provide targeted support, and recognize each child’s unique talents. More than a test, DIAL is a tool for understanding—helping teachers partner with families to nurture confidence, curiosity, and readiness for the years ahead.
At Our Redeemer, we are committed to preparing children not only for academic success but also for a joyful and confident start to their educational journey.
