Admissions Process

  • Complete your Application Checklist – Our Redeemer applicants will be asked to upload the following documents to their checklist as applicable to their age level. Any items not applicable will be waived by our admissions team.

    -Birth Certificate

    -Report Cards: two previous school years and current school year progress report. For young applicants without formal report cards, conference reports/teacher evaluation notes can be submitted.

    -Most Recent Standardized Testing Results

    -Administrator and Teacher Recommendation Forms: Submit name and email of a current administrator (Principal, Asst. Principal, or Dean) and your child’s current homeroom teacher and a confidential form will be emailed to them.

    -Students with academic resource needs may have additional checklist items

     

  • Interview with Head of School – After completing your checklist, families interview with our Head of School. Families are encouraged to ask questions about our school culture, philosophy, and programs.

    1st – 8th grade students will also complete placement testing conducted in conjunction with the Head of School meeting.

  • Attend New Friend Day – Candidates for grades Pre-K 3 through 8th Grade attend a “New Friend Day” where they visit with their intended classroom for a full day of school to meet new friends and spend time with the teacher. (One year-old candidates are exempt from this step.)
  • Acceptance & Enrollment

    -All applications, documents, and interview notes are reviewed by our admissions team after completion of your checklist including the Head of School Interview and New Friend Day.

    -Notifications of acceptance will be emailed within 1-2 weeks of checklist completion.

    -You have 14 days from acceptance to sign your contract and pay the annual Comprehensive Fee.

    -Your child is not enrolled until the contract is submitted and the fee is paid.

    Waiting Pool – If your student’s grade level becomes full, your student may be added to our waiting pool. Candidates are accepted from the waiting pool as spots become available. To avoid a waiting pool, please finish your checklist as soon as possible.

  • Additional Enrollment Documents

    After contract completion, you will be assigned a Student Checklist to upload the following documents:

    -Immunization record

    -Doctor’s Statement of Health

    Students will not be able to begin school without submitting these items.

Rolling Enrollment

At Our Redeemer Lutheran School, we offer Rolling Enrollment, which means families can apply at any time during the year—there’s no fixed admissions or application deadline. This flexible approach allows families to move forward when they’re ready, without having to wait for a specific enrollment period. We understand that every family’s situation and timing are unique, and our goal is to make joining the ORLS community as smooth and accessible as possible.

Because space in each class is limited, we encourage families to apply early to secure their child’s spot. Enrollment decisions are made regularly throughout the year as applications are received, ensuring that students can begin their Our Redeemer journey as soon as possible. Whether you’re relocating, seeking a better educational fit, or just discovering what makes Our Redeemer special, our rolling admissions process makes it easy to become part of a school where faith, character, and learning grow together.

Continuous Enrollment

At Our Redeemer Lutheran School, we believe that the enrollment process should be as seamless as the learning journey itself. That’s why we use a Continuous Enrollment model — designed to simplify things for our families and help our school plan confidently for the future.

Once a family signs an admissions contract for their child’s school level — Early Childhood, Elementary, or Middle School — that student remains enrolled at Our Redeemer year after year, unless the family notifies us otherwise. There’s no need to re-apply or re-enroll annually. Families can simply enjoy the peace of mind that their child’s place at Our Redeemer is secure.

We do understand that circumstances can change, which is why we provide a withdrawal window each year. If a family chooses not to return and notifies us before this window closes, there is no financial penalty. After that time, families may be responsible for a portion of the following year’s tuition, as our staffing, classroom placements, and resource planning are based on returning students.

Continuous Enrollment allows us to focus more on what truly matters — nurturing your child’s growth in faith, character, and learning — while giving families a more convenient, worry-free experience.

Tuition

Tuition is billed over 10 months of the year from July through May with no payment due in January.  Fees for supplies, field trips, etc are due as a Comprehensive Fee at the time you complete your contract and in January every year there after.

Tuition Assistance

The Board of Our Redeemer Lutheran School understands that private school tuition is a substantial financial investment for many families and therefore takes the responsibility of establishing annual tuition for our students seriously. It is our goal to keep Our Redeemer Lutheran School accessible to all families of qualified students. Who is eligible to apply for tuition assistance?

Financial assistance is only available for elementary students that have already submitted an application to Our Redeemer Lutheran School. To begin the admissions process, please schedule a visit with our admissions team.

About Tuition Assistance

  • New families interested in tuition assistance must complete an application for and be accepted for the upcoming school year.
  • If a family is interested in applying for tuition assistance, the Director of Admissions will send them the link to our online tuition assistance application process as well as detailed instructions and a list of required documents.
  • Families will also need to apply for a Texas Education Freedom Account (the newly passed School Choice program) that may award up to $10,000 for private school tuition.
  • Our Redeemer does accept applications throughout the year, however, priority is given to tuition assistance applications that are received before March 15th.
  • A decision regarding the amount of assistance will be made by the Finance Committee once the family has submitted their application and their documents have been approved.
  • Once a family has been notified of their award, a student contract will be sent to the family. The family will then have 2 weeks to sign the contract and accept the terms of the tuition assistance, unless otherwise noted.
  • Tuition assistance must be reapplied for each year. Existing families with financial aid will be contacted directly by the school each year with instructions and a timeline for applying.

Elementary Admissions FAQ

How much homework is given each night?

Homework for 1st graders averages approximately 15 minutes a night and gradually increases with every grade level. Homework amounts increase during test and project times.

How are the students disciplined?

Students are encouraged by their teachers to maintain proper classroom behavior. However, when behaviors do occur a color chart system is used. Behavior charts and communication go home daily.

Is there a deadline for submitting my admissions forms?

Applications and forms are accepted year-round based upon availability. Each form must be accompanied with a deposit of $100 towards the appropriate Comprehensive Fee. The remaining balance will be required when your child receives notification of acceptance.

What testing do you do at ORLS?

Our Redeemer administers MAP assessments. MAP Growth measures what students know and informs what they’re ready to learn next. By dynamically adjusting to each student’s responses, MAP Growth creates a personalized assessment experience that accurately measures performance. Timely, easy-to-use reports help teachers teach, students learn, and administrators lead.

What grading system do you use?

Our Redeemer uses the percentile grading system.  Parents can see grades online through our school information system. Parents are given mid-quarter progress reports, quarterly report cards, and semi-annual teacher conferences.

Where do most of your students go after 8th grade?

They transition very well into other private schools as well as public.  Schools often chosen include Bishop Lynch, Dallas Lutheran, Christ the King, Cambridge, and others.

What is the curriculum used in these grades?

  • Core Curriculum:
    • Religion: “Enduring Faith” – Concordia Publishing
    • Math: “EnVision Math” —  Pearson *Math is taught at the same in all grades to allow for adjustment in teaching/learning levels for Move Ahead Math.
    • English: “Abeka” Language
    • Science: “BJU Press” —equips students to apply science to life by building foundational knowledge and skills with pre-assessments, scaffolded instruction, spiral review, and hands-on activities.
    • Reading: Rooted in Reading and HMH Into Reading
    • Social Studies: “Studies Weekly” Series Curriculum with standards based differentiation.

Early Childhood Admissions FAQ

Do I need to furnish a snack for my child?

Yes, all students bring a nutritious morning snack to school. Kids’ Club snacks are provided for those staying after school.

Are diapers or pull-ups allowed in preschool?

Only for children enrolled in the one-year-old through pre-k 2.  Starting in pre-k 3, all students must be completely potty trained.

Will my preschool child have a rest time?

Yes. Licensing requires rest time for preschool children in Pre-K 2, Pre-K 3 and Pre-K 4 who attend the extended day after 11:30 a.m.

How are the students disciplined?

Children are encouraged by their teachers to maintain proper classroom behavior. Positive reinforcement of good behavior is used most often, and when necessary, a time out is used.
