Angel Roque

Music & Choir Teacher

I have been teaching for 3 years, after spending 2 years as a private music instructor, and I’m grateful every day to share the joy of music with my students. I hold a BA in Music, which laid the foundation for my passion in both performing and teaching.

I became a teacher because I’ve always loved music, and teaching privately showed me how fulfilling it is to watch students grow. My own teachers instilled a deep passion for music in me, and now I hope to do the same—helping students discover the excitement, creativity, and confidence that music can bring.

One of my favorite parts of teaching is students’ curiosity—the moment when they begin connecting the dots and truly understand how a concept works. I love seeing them link a lesson to something in their own lives. My favorite Bible verse is Luke 2:29–32,”Sovereign Lord, as you have promised, you may now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”

A life lesson I strive to teach my students is the importance of kindness. Music can make us feel vulnerable; it sometimes requires us to step out of our comfort zones or even be a little silly to create a beautiful sound. Because of that, I emphasize showing respect and kindness to classmates so that everyone feels safe to express themselves.

Outside of school, I enjoy reading, writing, and taking long walks with my Labrador retriever. A fun fact about me is that this summer, I sang at Carnegie Hall in New York, collaborating with musicians from across the country to showcase the beauty of classical music.
